Two people were killed in two separate traffic incidents in Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, according to Taliban local authorities.
The Taliban-run Nangarhar Media Office said the first incident occurred in a crowded area of the city when a Mazda-type vehicle, reportedly driven at high speed and without caution, struck a pedestrian civilian. The victim died from severe injuries before reaching the hospital.
In a separate incident in the ‘Sra Pump’ area of the city’s Ninth District, a collision took place between a Toyota vehicle and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was killed on the spot.
Taliban officials said both incidents were caused by driver carelessness and failure to observe traffic laws.
Traffic incidents have recently increased significantly in Nangarhar, particularly inside Jalalabad city. Narrow roads, the large number of rickshaws, and new drivers operating vehicles and motorcycles without traffic licenses are cited as major factors behind the rising casualties.
