The Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice says it has detained a 70-year-old TikTok user known online as “Malak Akbar.”
Saiful Islam Khyber, the ministry’s spokesperson, announced the arrest in a post on X on Saturday, stating that the elderly man had been engaging in activities “against Islamic and moral values” and considered a crime under the group’s regulations.
According to the spokesperson, the man was handed over to a Taliban court following his arrest. Khyber did not specify where the arrest took place or provide further details about the content that led to the detention.
He warned that anyone involved in similar actions would also face arrest.
The Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice has previously detained several TikTok users, forcing some to publicly “repent” for content the group deems inappropriate.
