Two children were killed and five others injured after an unexploded shell detonated in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province, according to a post published on X by the province’s media office, which operates under Taliban control.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 12:30 p.m on Thursday. in the Spin Khord area of the Fourth Farm locality in Bati Kot District.
In the post, the media office said children had found an unexploded ordnance and thrown it into a fire, triggering the explosion. Two children were killed in the blast and five others sustained injuries.
According to the same post, the condition of two of the injured children was described as critical.
Unexploded ordnance remains a serious risk in many parts of Afghanistan, where decades of conflict have left behind landmines and munitions that continue to endanger civilians, particularly children.
