On the eve of the World Day Against Child Labour 2025, The Afghan Times & IUF Asia/Pacific are proud to publish a powerful new report documenting the lives of Afghanistan’s working children under Taliban rule.
Told by our team of Afghan women journalists, this 64-page report gives voice to the children forced into labour as a result of economic collapse, repression, and the systematic erasure of women from public life. Girls banned from school. Mothers banned from work. Children now bear the burden.
From Zahra selling corn by the roadside, to Wali hammering iron in a dim workshop, to siblings stacking bricks in scorching kilns—these are stories of survival, not statistics.
