The death toll has risen sharply after a Pakistani airstrike struck a major drug addiction treatment hospital in Kabul late Monday evening, according to Taliban officials.

Hamdullah Fitrat said the Pakistani military carried out the strike at around 9:00 p.m. on the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital, a 2,000-bed facility dedicated to treating drug addiction.

Fitrat said large sections of the hospital were destroyed in the attack, raising concerns about a high number of casualties among patients and staff.

“Unfortunately, the death toll has so far reached 400, while around 250 others have been reported injured,” he said.

Rescue teams are currently working at the scene to control the fire and recover the remaining bodies from the debris, while authorities continue assessing the full extent of the damage.
