A boys’ high school building in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province has been severely damaged after artillery shelling reportedly carried out by Pakistani forces, according to a local official.

Ziaurrahman Spin Ghar, the Information Director at the Kunar Department of Information and Culture, told Tolo News that the central boys’ high school in Dangam district was struck by artillery fire from the Pakistani military.

He said that although no casualties were reported, the school building suffered heavy damage as a result of the shelling.

Spin Ghar also stated that in the past 48 hours, more than 270 rocket and artillery attacks have been launched from Pakistan into Kunar province only. According to him, the attacks targeted several districts across the province.

While no deaths or injuries have been reported so far, a number of homes and buildings have been damaged due to the cross-border bombardment, local authorities said.

Officials have not yet released further details regarding the full extent of the damage or any possible response measures.

Since 26 February, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says it has recorded at least 75 civilians killed and 193 injured across Afghanistan as a result of ongoing armed clashes.
