9-Year-Old Child dies two days after being wounded; her uncle was killed in Asadabad attack

9-year-old Baharat, who was critically injured in Pakistani shelling in Asadabad, Kunar, and later died from her wounds.

A 9-year-old girl Baharat who was critically injured during Pakistani military shelling in Asadabad, Kunar province, on Saturday has died from her wounds, her family confirmed on Wednesday.

She was seriously injured two days ago in Pakistani artillery strikes that wounded 16 people in total. The attack also killed her uncle at the scene. Despite receiving treatment, she remained in critical condition and died today.

Her relative, Ismail Sahil, told The Afghan Times: “She was badly injured in the shelling two days ago, and her uncle was killed. She passed away today. Her funeral will be held at 5:00 PM at the Dam Kalay cemetery.”

Taliban Deputy Spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said Pakistani forces shelled civilian homes near Asadabad, Kunar, on March 29, using mortars and heavy weapons.

“At least 16 people were injured, most of them women and children, and one person was killed,” Fitrat added.
