A female doctor, Sahar Zawalzai, and her young son, Mihan, were killed by Pakistani forces on Thursday morning in the Barikot area of Nari district, Kunar province, the first day of Eid in Afghanistan, sources told TOLOnews.

According to local residents, the bodies remained at the site for more than 24 hours, as Pakistani forces fired on anyone attempting to retrieve them. Villagers eventually recovered the bodies, but the family says they had to walk for hours through the mountains to reach Asadabad, Kunar safely.

The victims’ husband told the TOLOnews:

“My wife and I had jobs at the Kamdesh clinic. When we were traveling home for Eid with our children, Pakistani soldiers opened fire. My young son and my wife were both killed. The soldiers did not allow anyone to retrieve their bodies for a day and a night.”

Residents also reported that Pakistani forces fired mortar shells on the first day of Eid, and roads connecting Kamdesh and Barg-e-Matal districts in Nuristan have been closed, creating difficulties for local people to access food and essential supplies.

Pakistan has not yet commented on the incidents.
