Incident Occurred During Field Reporting Near the Afghanistan–Pakistan Border, Officials Confirm

An Afghan journalist lost his life and another sustained injuries after Pakistani troops allegedly fired across the border in Afghanistan’s Khost province, local officials said.

Authorities in Khost confirmed that Abdul Ghafor Abid, a reporter for National Television, was shot and killed while covering a story near the Afghanistan–Pakistan border.

Provincial spokesperson Mustaghfar Gurbaz stated that the shooting occurred in the Zazi Maidan district, close to the Durand Line, where Abid had been reporting on local developments.

Another reporter, Towab Arman, was also injured in the attack and taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment, officials added.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions along the Afghanistan–Pakistan frontier, where recent clashes and airstrikes have fueled fears of further escalation.

Sources report that ongoing skirmishes between Pakistani troops and Taliban fighters have displaced hundreds of residents in border communities. Fighting reportedly flared again in Khost on Tuesday night, contributing to growing instability in the area.

The killing has prompted renewed concern from media and human rights groups over the safety of journalists working in conflict zones, particularly in regions affected by persistent cross-border violence.
