Welcome to the fifth episode of Open Mic – The Afghan Times Podcast, where we continue to highlight stories of resilience, hope, and advocacy from Afghanistan.

Listen now

In this episode of Open Mic, we feature Dr. Nazifa Amini, a medical doctor from Paktika province. In addition to her work in the healthcare sector, Dr. Amini has devoted 16 years to the field of education, serving as a high school principal. Her commitment to improving both health and education in her community is inspiring, especially in a country where many women and girls are now deprived of these essential opportunities.

Dr. Amini expresses deep concern about the ban on girls’ education, a policy that has taken away important chances for Afghan girls to learn and pursue careers. She believes that illiteracy can hinder the progress of a nation and urges that the differential treatment between boys and girls must end.

In her role as a doctor, Dr. Amini is dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of women and mothers, aiming to solve their problems through her work. She also stresses the importance of families supporting their daughters in becoming future leaders, whether as doctors or professionals in other fields.

Stay tuned for more inspiring stories in future episodes of Open Mic.
